      5.0 Duties and Responsibilities

5.1       Assists with admission, transfer and discharges.

5.1.1   Orientates patients to their physical environment upon admission (i.e call lights, side rails, bed controls, television, etc.).

5.1.2      Takes and records vital signs, height and weight of patients. Observes records and reports all abnormal findings to the charge nurse or team leader.

5.1.3      Prepares patients and his/her environments at meals times. Feed patients as indicated excluding tube feeds.

5.2       Attends to patients’ hygiene needs and comfort.

5.2.1      Makes occupied and unoccupied beds.

5.2.2      Ambulates patients as ordered.

5.2.3      Answer call lights and reports all unusual conditions to the Charge Nurse/Head Nurse.

5.2.4      May apply hot and cold compresses to patient, as directed by the Charge Nurse/Head Nurse.

5.2.5      Records intake and output.

5.2.6      Collects specimens from patients for Laboratory examination.

5.2.7      Observes isolation techniques.

5.2.8      Gives post-mortem care.

5.3       Sets up diagnostic equipment at bedside as needed.

5.3.1      Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures (i.e. enema, etc.) 

5.4       Initiates and actively participates in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

5.5       Performs some duties of the Pantry Hostess in her absence.

5.5.1      Prepares beverages trays and trolleys.

5.5.2      Makes and serves beverages as required.

5.5.3     Cleans and distributes fresh glasses and fresh water daily to each patient.

5.6       Performs other duties as may be assigned.

5.7.1      Transports patients to other departments. (i.e. x-ray, etc.)

5.7.2      Transports specimens to the Laboratory.

5.7.3      Cleanses duty instruments and trays before returning them to C.S.S.D.

5.7.4      Maintains cleanliness and neatness of patient environment, utility rooms, treatment room and nurse’s station.

5.7       Participates in patient/family teaching and discharge planning.

5.8     Requires knowledge, skills and attitude to perform the job responsibilities.

5.9.1      Knowledge, Information applied directly to the performance of a function.

5.9.2      Skills, Technical or manual proficiencies which are usually learned or Acquired through training program.

5.9.3      Attitude, Characteristics that must display in the job.

• Clinically current in area of assignment.

• Knowledge of Middle Eastern culture and customs.
