3.1 Perform a variety of orthopedic related activities including applylng and removing of
casts using plaster, fiberglass or synthetic materials. This involves adjusting,
removing, repairing, bivalving, wedging and windowing of casts.
3.2 Fabricates and applies splints and bandages (i.e., finger splints, humeral splints, knee
splints, etch.).
3.3 Measures and fits patients for orthopedic braces, devices and ambulatory aides and
instructs patient regarding care and proper use.
3.4 Assists Physician in special procedures such as removal of pins and application and
adj ustment of traction.
3.5 Removes dressing and refer to attending Physician for proper assessment of the
condition of wounds prior to cast application. Consults with Physician for further
orders when problems are identified.
3.6 Apply a wide range of casting and traction techniques in accordance with established
practices and Physician's instruction.
3.7 Instructs patient/ family about the care of the cast splint, brace and skin care.
3.8 Maintains and follows Infection Control Guidelines.
