PHYSICAL MEDICINE & REHABILITATION CONSULTANT - ARMED FORCES CENTER FOR HEALTH REHABILITATION

5.1     Document examination results, treatment plans, and patient’s     outcomes. Record patient medical histories.

5.2     Examine patients to assess mobility, strength, communication,  or cognition.

5.3   Assess characteristics of patients’ pain such as intensity,        location, and duration using standardized clinical measures.

5.4  Provide inpatient or outpatient medical management of    neuromuscular disorders, musculoskeletal trauma, acute and chronic pain, deformity or amputation, cardiac or pulmonary disease, or other disabling conditions.

5.5     Treat chronic diseases or disorders.

5.6     Monitor effectiveness of pain management interventions such   as medication and spinal injections. Monitor patient progress or responses to treatments.

5.7   Develop comprehensive plans for immediate and long-term  rehabilitation including therapeutic exercise; speech and occupational therapy; counseling; cognitive retraining; patient, family or caregiver education; or community reintegration.

5.8     Develop treatment plans that use non-medical therapies.

5.9    Coordinate physical medicine and rehabilitation services with    other medical activities. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment.

5.10  Perform electrodiagnosis including electromyography, nerve    conduction studies, or somatosensory evoked potentials of neuromuscular disorders or damage. Test patient nervous system functioning.

5.11   Prescribe physical therapy to relax the muscles and improve      strength. Prescribe treatments or therapies. 

5.12  Consult or coordinate with other rehabilitative professionals      including physical and occupational therapists, rehabilitation nurses, speech pathologist, neuropsychologists, behavioral psychologists, social workers, or medical technicians. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment.

5.13 Prescribe therapy services, such as electrotherapy,      ultrasonography, heat or cold therapy, hydrotherapy, debridement, short-wave or microwave diathermy, and infrared or ultraviolet radiation, to enhance rehabilitation.

          Prescribe treatments or therapies.

5.14   Instruct interns and residents in the diagnosis and treatment of temporary or permanent physically disabling conditions. Train medical providers.

5.15  Diagnose or treat performance related conditions such as sports injuries or repetitive motion injuries. Diagnose medical conditions. Treat acute illnesses, infections or injuries.

5.16 Prescribe orthotic and prosthetic applications and adaptive equipment, such as wheelchairs, bracing and communication devices, to maximize patient function and self-sufficiency. Prescribe assistive medical devices or related treatments.

5.17   Conduct physical tests such as functional capacity evaluations to determine injured workers’ capabilities to perform the physical demands of their jobs.

  5.18 Examine patients to assess general physical condition.

Graduate from a recognized medical school. Saudi Board or equivalent higher qualification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
