Abides by the Medical Staff By-Laws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department.

Display advanced knowledge of clinical care theory, practice, policies, procedures and equipment relevant to the optometry.

Supports Medical Administration in the overall operations of Medical Services through the provision of direct patient care, specifically meeting targets/deliverables within their clinical assignment(s), as per their designated clinical area/unit and delegated duties.

Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible according to established policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines of the hospital.

Carries out full range of clinical duties as assigned by the director of department/head of division in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.

Complete required approved clinical privileges and be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Conduct Comprehensive Eye Examinations:

Perform thorough assessments and/or reassessment of patients' visual acuity, refractive errors, binocular vision, eye movements, pupil reactions, and ocular health using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment such as autorefractors, phoropters, slit lamps, and tonometers.

Evaluate patients' medical history, family history, and lifestyle factors to understand their unique eye care needs and potential risk factors for eye diseases.

Document examination findings accurately and comprehensively in electronic health records (EHR) systems, including visual field tests, retinal imaging, and other diagnostic tests.

Diagnose and Treat Visual Conditions:

Utilize clinical judgment and diagnostic skills to identify and diagnose a wide range of visual conditions, including myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia, strabismus, amblyopia, and eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye syndrome.

Develop evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient's diagnosis, visual needs, lifestyle preferences, and treatment goals.

Prescribe medications, therapeutic eye drops, or topical treatments as appropriate for managing ocular conditions and providing symptomatic relief.

Prescribe and Dispense Corrective Lenses:

Determine the most suitable prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses based on the patient's refractive error, visual demands, occupational requirements, and personal preferences.

Educate patients on lens options, lens materials, lens designs, coatings, and tints to optimize visual correction, comfort, and visual performance.

Perform contact lens fittings, including keratometry measurements, corneal topography, tear film assessment, and trial lens evaluations, to ensure proper fit, comfort, and ocular health.

Manage Eye Health and Disease:

Monitor and manage chronic eye conditions through regular follow-up examinations, disease progression assessments, and treatment adjustments to optimize visual outcomes and preserve ocular health.

Provide pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing refractive surgery, cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and other ocular surgeries, collaborating closely with surgical specialists to achieve optimal surgical outcomes.

Educate Patients and Promote Eye Health:

Empower patients with knowledge about their eye conditions, treatment options, preventive measures, and lifestyle modifications to promote optimal eye health and minimize the risk of vision loss.

Offer guidance on proper eye care practices, including eye hygiene, UV protection, nutritional interventions, and computer ergonomics, to prevent eye strain, fatigue, and digital eye strain.

Ability to use scientific techniques to sort through data and conflicting information to reach an accurate medical diagnosis.

Ability to work cooperatively and strategically in a multicultural team environment with all levels of healthcare professionals, technical and administrative staff.

Self-motivated and with awareness of current trends in the fields.

Ability to use problem solving to evaluate patients’ symptoms and administer the appropriate treatments.
