Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department.
Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible.
Carries out full range of inpatient and outpatient clinical duties as assigned by the director of department/head of division in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.
Responsible for the initial assessment, re-assessment, investigation, analysis, & interpretation of the clinical findings and test results, arriving at diagnosis, treatment, and re-assessment and follow-up of the patients.
Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality Medicine Programme, Quality Assessment Improvement Programme) as applicable.
Assess, diagnose and manage appropriately patients within the clinical setting in which he/she is working.
Participate in relevant multidisciplinary team meetings discussing the care of patients.
Participate in the education of the patient and relevant others about his/her illness and treatment.
Adhere to the protocols, guidelines and practice standards pertaining to the area of clinical practice as laid out by the Saudi Government law, MSD's policies and procedure and the Hospital or its affiliates.
Support compliance to national and international standards as required by MSD and support the accreditation process.
Practice in a manner consistent with established ethical standards as provided by the Saudi Council for Health Specialties.
Provide the level of service as specified in the yearly output targets.
Consult and liaise with other professionals involved with the patient.
Participate with other consultants in providing equitable sharing of the clinical service load, both inpatient and outpatient.
Actively contributes to risk minimization activities within the service.
Maintain and participate in a satisfactory on call roster.
Complies with responsibilities under the Health & Safety in Employment Act of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the MSD policies and Procedures.
Participate in educating and training undergraduate and graduate, medical and paramedical staff.
Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the director of department/head of division and Director of Academic Affairs and Training in planning a program of career development for trainees.
Take responsibility for supervising and training the work of registrars, resident and medical students where required and for other health professionals involved in the management of the patient.
Train and supervise the Registrars and Residents and participates in the formal ophthalmology residency-training program as applicable.
Supervise Registrars and Residents in Ophthalmology research, investigations, and reporting as applicable.
Assists in the training, teaching, supervision, and assessment of trainee technicians, specialists and others as applicable.
Provide classroom lectures to students, trainees, or presentations to healthcare providers as required.
Takes part in teaching program lectures, seminars, tutorials etc.
Participates in orientation and in-service education programs.
Maintains knowledge and skills in health education and health promotion research through review of professional literature, participation in conferences and continuing education.
Participates in CQIPS System Improvement activities, System Control activities, Staff Development activities, Environmental Awareness, Fire and Safety Practices, CPR, Disaster, and Infection Control.
Performs other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities as designated/assigned

Excellent communication, analytical, organizational and administration skills.
Ability to maintain competence and keep abreast of any new updates in clinical practice through literature review, attendance at relevant conferences, internal professional development etc.
Patient management skills.
Ability to use scientific techniques to sort through data and conflicting information to reach an accurate medical diagnosis.
Ability to use problem solving to evaluate patients’ symptoms and administer the appropriate treatments
