Responsible for performing medical laboratory tasks appropriate to his/her specialty field and knowledge; conducting technical analysis of samples submitted and verifying results issued.

The employee will:

1. Need to have a thorough understanding of scientific/technical principal, procedural and problem-solving aspects of laboratory testing.
2. Need to comprehend factors affecting health and disease and their important on test selection, causes of discrepant results, and validity of test results. 
3. Perform standard, complex and specialized tests according to Standard Operating Procedures, and assist the section in implementing Quality Improvement Program.
4. Participate in the introduction, investigation and implementation of new procedures and in evaluation of new instrumentation/techniques.
5. Demonstrate initiative in performing/assisting a broad scope of duties: supplies, reagent, consumables, their delivery/utilization and storage.
6. Carry out all procedures relating to specimen collection, sample preparation, technical analysis, verification (As per specified test and policies) and recording of test results with emphasis on critical values.
7. Comply with required procedure, quality control and safety standards, in the performance of work tasks.
8. Utilize laboratory equipment and supplies in a manner, which will ensure both efficiency and safety.
9. Ensure those laboratory equipment/instrument are serviced in accordance with appropriate maintenance schedules and report any apparent malfunctions to the SMLSO.
10. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory established performance specifications.
11. Supervise and instruct any subordinate staff or trainees as may be assigned.
12. Adhere to confidentiality code of conduct, protecting patient’s right to privacy at all times. 
13. Participate in the department on-call Rota (Evening. Night. Weekend) as required.
14. Participate in continuous education as per the policy of the department.
15. Rotate to various areas of the division as directed.
16. Ensure that instruments daily/weekly maintenance, samples analysis (QC, PT, Routine, ASAP, and STAT) are done without delay relay all STAT results, and critical results immediately.
17. Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities.
