Job Description
Abide by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of
the Medical Staff and those specific to the department.
Provide the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she
is responsible complying with MSD Standardized Medical Staff By-Laws
Carry out full range of inpatient and outpatient clinical duties as assigned by the
Consultant/Senior Registrar in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.
Participate in the on-call duties as required by the department.
Instruct and guide when necessary junior medical staff in the overall care of patients,
supervises their performance/work and contributes to the training and teaching activities
in the department.
Report and discuss all unusual findings, complication or alterations in the management
plan, with the Consultant/Senior Registrar.
Work towards completing his post graduate training and passing the Final Part his
Membership or Saudi Board.
Deal and treat a life threatening conditions.
Resuscitate or stabilize patients and refer them to the appropriate medical departments
for further evaluation or discharge safely from emergency.
Work as part of a team with physicians of other specialties and other members of the
emergency room staff.
Think and act quickly to make a tentative diagnosis and determine the appropriate
course of treatment.
Serve patients with critical conditions and acute conditions.
Demonstrate diagnostic and therapeutic skills for ethical and effective patient emergency
care. Access and apply relevant information to clinical practice.
Demonstrate effective consultation services with respect to patient emergency care,
education and legal opinion.
Develop competency in patient care and decision making for the emergency patient.
Demonstrate an understanding of the pathophysiology of disease and injury and the
natural history of disease and illness.
Demonstrate the prompt recognition of acute illness and injury.
Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of resuscitation, investigation, diagnosis
and management decision making.
Perform a clinical assessment and to collect all appropriate information.
Attend the Continuing Medical Education Program of the department.
Participate in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality Management
Program, Quality Assessment Improvement Program) as applicable.
Fulfill the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties with regard to
continuing medical education.
Participate in and/or actively supports approved research projects.
Serve on hospital committees as requested.
Deputize for his superior as required and shares workload in his specialty during the
absence of his colleagues.
Strive to improve his clinical expertise as well as standard of practice with regard to
morbidity and cost effectiveness.
Participate in the Major Disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated
Acquire and maintain a valid certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee's
knowledge, skills and abilities.
Education / Licensure :
Graduate from a recognized medical school.
Completion Training Certificate or equivalent in the department
specialty.
Valid registration from Saudi Commission for Health Specialties as
Registrar.
Skills Description
Broad based knowledge related to contemporary health care issues
and their impact on provision of services.
Knowledge of Quality Improvement and Best Practice principles
and procedures.
Knowledge of Safety and Welfare policies, principles and
procedures.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in Arabic and
English.
