At the start of each session, cleans the operatory surfaces, unit and chair with recommended solutions. Runs water through the lines for three minutes. Sets up for first patient using instruments that have been autoclaved.

 

 

 

• Collects the dental records of patients who have appointments scheduled for the

 

 

 

 

 

• Checks the appointment box to see if the appointed patient has

 

 

 

 

 

• Carries out the treatment as prescribed by the referring Doctor, after checking Medical (A hygienist may not prescribe drugs for patients requiring antibiotic prophylaxis, this should be arranged by the referring Doctor)

 

 

 

 

 

• When required, the hygienist:

 

 

 

 

 

• Cleans and polishes Removes plaque and calculus deposits and stains from the supra and subgingival surface of teeth. Infiltration local anaesthesia may be used if required.

 

 

 

 

 

• Polishes restorations (.fillings).

 

 

 

 

 

• Applies materials in order to reduce the risk of tooth decay, e. fluoride gels and solutions and the fissure sealing of teeth.

 

 

 

 

 

• Gives dental health Teaches the value of dental health and the measures individual can take to reduce the risks of developing tooth decay and periodontal disease; oral hygiene instruction, dietary advice, use of fluoride.

 

 

 

3.5.5          Performs  other  applicable  tasks  and  duties  assigned  within  the  realm  of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

 

 

• After each patient:

 

 

 

 

 

• The instruments should all be sent to CSSD for cleaning and autoclaving.

 

 

 

 

 

• The writ must be disinfected using appropriate

• Where necessary the hygienist should discuss cases with the periodontist and records in the charts cases of advanced periodontal

 

 

 

 

 

• Educates patients and/or families on matters relevant to the patient's condition/s as

• Participates in quality improvement and patient safety activities and attends quality improvement educational activities as
