Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, designs and implements an overall risk management process for the hospital which includes risk assessment, risk identification, risk prioritization, risk prevention/minimization and risk management of all processes and systems within the hospital, but excluding claims management, at least once per year.
  • Adheres to all hospital policies, procedure and guidelines as outlined in the policies, bylaws, employee contract, job description, national regulation and international standards.
  • Develops and implements uniform tools for risk assessment, risk prioritization, risk management and risk evaluation for all departmental/service usage and provide hospital wide training on the usage of the approved formats.
  • Plans (with approval through the Hospital Steering Team) a comprehensive hospital-wide Risk Management Program which identify risk areas, risk prevention program, reporting program and priorities for improvement.
  • Plans and oversees Patient Satisfaction process which will be coordinated through the Patient Affairs Department and assisted by all department directors/heads of units.
  • Risk reporting as per the Risk Management Program in an appropriate manner for the various audiences, regulatory agencies and hospital-wide committees and teams.
  • Manages an effective event reporting process, as designed within the hospital and approved, and ensure all reported events are analyzed, reviewed, corrected and actioned.
  • Aggregates, analyzes and trends all reported events as per the pre-defined classification and grouping and report significant trends, findings and events as per the requirement within the hospital policies.
  • Submits monthly analyzed reports to all of the department/unit heads outlining the findings of the reported events (hospital wide).
  • Completes aggregation, analysis and trending of all reported complaints and submit monthly reports to the department/unit heads outlining the findings of the reported complaints.
  • Assists and coordinates in the yearly risk assessment of the following high risk systems: Medical Equipment, Fire Safety, Safety & Security, Prevention and Control of Infection, Utilities Management, Emergency Management, Patient Safety, Hazardous Materials
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the Risk Management Program at least once per year (quality year end calendar December).
  • Prepare reports, as per the hospital format, on the following:
  • Immediate reporting of sentinel events, adverse events and significant near misses to the Director of CQI & PSD (the Director of Hospital   Administration in the absence of the Director of CQI & PSD).
  • Monthly aggregated data report on incidents, complaints, and sentinel events and adverse events, outlining causes, factors and action taken.
  • Quarterly summary analysis on the abovementioned highlighting most common causes and contributing factors.
  • Yearly evaluation and risk identification on all hospital plans and programs as completed and submitted through the oversight of said programs and plans.
  • Monthly aggregated report on complaints outlining findings, causes, factors and action taken.
  • Conducts proactive risk assessment on all new high risk processes and systems within the hospital and recommendation risk prevention strategies.
  • Reviews and evaluates policy and compliance to standards, regulations, including liaison with internal and external regulatory bodies and auditors.
  • Coordinates all Root Cause Analyses (RCA) as per the hospital policy on Sentinel Event Reporting.
  • Completes at least two (2) Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA) per year based on the risk prevention priorities identified.
  • Completes Case Reviews audits if required as part of ongoing investigations and as per the hospital policy on Root Cause Analysis.
  • Provides support, coordination and assistance to all departments/services to build risk prevention strategies and processes within their departments.
  • Develops and implements a risk management training program aimed at all staff and as per the need of the audience.

Skills

 

 

  • Experience as clinician in an acute hospital setting, two of those at senior level or managerial level,experience in health care quality management. 

 

 

  • Experience in case management, case reviews and auditing.

 

 

  • Previous experience in health care risk and/or claims management.

 

 

  • Previous experience in patient and environmental safety.

 

 

  • Detailed knowledge on the development and usage of the general tools and techniques of risk management.

 

 

  • A general curiosity and broad understanding of health care and an interest in case management and human behavior.

 

 

  • Knowledge and understanding of continuous quality improvement and improvement methodologies within healthcare environment.

 

 

  • Knowledge and understanding on complaint management and incident investigation.

 

 

  • Extensive medical knowledge.

 

 

  • Extensive national / state / federal / labor law knowledge.

 

 

  • Fluency and comprehension in written and spoken English and desirable for written and spoken Arabic.

 

 

  • Personal organization and planning skills and negotiating and influencing skills.

 

 

  • Excellent communications and presentation skills, to be able to inform and persuade both orally and in writing.

 

 

  • Persistence, an eye for detail and ability to complete projects and keep to deadlines (in respect to risk reporting).

 

 

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office-Excel, Word and Power Point. Skilled use of typical office software and an ability to understand and interpret risk management software packages.

 

 

  • Ability to analyze and interpret general reports, professional journals, technical procedure manuals and governmental regulations.

 

 

  • Conflict Resolution and Problem Solving Skills.

 

 

  • Highly motivated and self-starter, able to handle multiple tasks concurrently.  Detail oriented and ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy.
