Job Description
1. Adhere to confidentiality code of conduct, protecting patients' right to privacy at all times.
2. Allocate tasks and manage the workflow of his/her section, aiming for maximum efficiency and safety. Organize staff work rotas for the section, ensuring that adequate cover is available at all times as required.
3. Perform routine staff management functions, including: monitoring of timekeeping and absences/leave, discipline, staff orientation/training, and educational programs.
4. Oversee routine preventive and crisis maintenance of analytical instrumentation and other analytical equipment.
5. Be responsible for overall supplies management/inventory of the section to ensure systematic and efficient use of reagents/consumables/supplies and instruments. Maintain sufficient levels of consumable items required by the section. Liaise with representative in-charge of laboratory supplies. Take charge of property control/fixed assets within the section.
6. Assist in the accreditation requirements which include:
6.1 Quality of Water and Glassware.
6.2 Performing Calibration.
6.3 Performing PPM and Troubleshooting.
7. Help develop the Standard Operating Procedures for the analytical tests, in conjunction with Chief MLSO and the consultant clinical scientists.
8. Perform analytical tasks, especially those requiring highly developed specialist skills, and validate results before release.
9. Monitor and ensure that the analytical quality of tests performed is maintained to a predefined standard.
10. Collaborate in the development and implementation of diagnostics tests.
11. Perform technical validation of all patients' results.
12. Develop and implement plan to correct and prevent problems.
13. Provide active participation and implementation in Health and Safety practices, Quality Standards, and towards Accreditation.
14. Ensure all analytical procedures comply with internal and external quality assessments.
15. Ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPI) e.g. TAT (Turn Around Time) for STAT/ASAP/ Routine test and Critical results reporting are maintained.
16. Ensure that all new staff are trained on performing the tests according to SOP with daily monitoring.
17. Ensure that laboratory equipment/ instrument PPM is done in accordance with appropriate maintenance schedules and report any apparent malfunctions to the CMLSO.
18. Participate in continuous education activities and training activities in the division.
19. Participate in teaching other technical, scientific, medical and other relevant topic.
20. Deputize for other SMLSO's, in the same specialist field, as required.
21. Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee's knowledge, skills and abilities.
Skills Description
1. Sound theoretical, practical and managerial experience in all aspects of his/her specialty
2. Working knowledge of computer applications in a hospital medical laboratory.
3. Desirable : Good broad knowledge of Pathology services.
