TOXICOLOGY CONSULTANT - AL HADA MILITARY HOSPITAL

Duties and Responsibilities

5.1    Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department/division.

5.2  Responsible for the provision and maintenance of an efficient     consultative, diagnostic and advisory service in Toxicology.

5.3     Provides Advice to the Director of Medical Laboratory concerning trends and new developments in the field of Toxicology.

5.4     Participates in the annual appraisal review of each staff in his specialty or in Chemical Pathology.

5.5   Participates in the management of physical and manpower resources of Toxicology and Chemical Pathology to maximum efficiency and effectiveness.

5.6  Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the director of department/head of division and Director of Postgraduate and Academic Affairs in planning a programme of career development for trainees.

5.7   Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality Management Program, Quality Assessment Improvement Programme) as applicable.

5.8    Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties with regard to continuing medical education.

5.9     Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects.

5.10   Serves on hospital committees as requested.

5.11   Will be required to participate in Clinico-pathological meetings.

5.12  Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical facilities.

5.13   Deputies for his superior as required and shares workload in his specialty during the absence of his colleagues.

5.14 Must have a sound understanding of toxicology/risk assessment  principles/practices and the scientific basis for toxicity testing.

5.15   Design and manage toxicology research under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations.

5.16  Analyze and evaluate problems to develop sound experimental techniques for scientific studies.

5.17   Train and mentor junior technical staff.

5.18   Work around or with hazardous materials may be required and would be   performed by following all safety guidelines to minimize exposure.

5.19   Experience working with extremely hazardous chemicals/biological.

5.20  Review all specimens reported as positive, adulterated, substituted,      invalid, or rejected for testing, and report the verified result to the administration and other agencies.

5.21  Ensure that specimens reported as negative or as negative and dilute are properly reviewed (i.e., at least 5% personally and the remainder by staff under direct and personal supervision) and reported to Laboratory administration.

5.22  Monitor the frequency of errors and notify responsible parties to take    corrective action to prevent recurrence; and

5.23   Maintain records and confidentiality of drug test information.

5.24 To provide feedback to the employer, collection site, or Laboratory administration on any problems when necessary.

5.25  Reviews all specimens that have been reported as positive, substituted, adulterated, rejected or invalid for testing. He is then tasked to report the confirmed or verified result to the Laboratory administration.

5.26 Review the results of all toxicology blind samples and do the initial investigation into results that are not consistent.

5.27  Facilitate or conduct the medical assessment of the person who provided the specimen when the collector-in-charge calls for the services of a licensed medical doctor.

5.28   Determine the accuracy and potential invalid results with the toxicologist  or laboratory administration, and determine whether further testing is required.

5.29   Keeps all records and drug test information a secret.

5.30   Receive negative and positive results from other laboratories.

5.31   Review chain of custody documentation.

5.32   Review and interpret each confirmed positive test result.

5.33   Provide an opportunity for employee to discuss positive test result.

 

 

Skills

  • Ability to speak, write and read Arabic and English.
  • Expert working knowledge of toxicology and toxicokinetics.
  • Demonstrates the use of the organization’s consulting models and  methodologies and use experience to suggest possible developments/improvements.
  • Knowledge regarding the pharmacology and toxicology of illicit drugs.

Education

Graduate from a recognized medical school. Saudi Board or equivalent higher qualification in Toxicology. 6.3PhD in Toxicology; Fellowship holder
