Senior House Officer - Family Medicine

1. Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department.

2. To exercise the highest possible standard of patient care according to his clinical privileges and available resources.

3. Uses clinical skills and methods appropriate to a primary care setting to analyse the patient's complaints and establish a plan of action in his/her best interest.

4. Initiates investigations which will confirm, establish or rule out diagnosis, of benefit to the patient.

5. Refers patients to his senior colleagues in Family Medicine or to the approriate specialist for opinion or treatment as deemed necessary.

6. Establishes a therapeutic relationship with patients/families in an effort to promote compliance and shared participation in a caring environment.

7. Follows up those patients with on-going or chronic illness or when a therapeutic response requires evaluation.

8. Reports and discusses unsual findings, complications or alterations in the management plan, with his senior colleagues as necessary.

9. Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties with regard to continuing medical education.

10. Participates in approved research projects.

11. To acquire and maintain a valid certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

12. Shares workload in his specialty during the absence of his colleagues.

13. Strives to improve his clinical expertise as well as standard of practice with regard to morbidity and cost effectiveness.

14. Participates in the Major Disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated.

15. Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical facilities.

1. Gradute from a recognized medical school.

2. One (1) year post internship experience as SHO in Family Medicine.
