Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the scope of practice and employment contract.
- Reviews referrals and patient’s records to determine nature of the objective for therapy.
- Performs patient tests, measurements, and evaluations in order to establish or revise treatment programs.
- Plans and carries out appropriate treatment programs for individual patients either in individual group treatment sessions based on evaluation.
- Develops treatment protocols and home programs as necessary, which will help patient regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to handicap.
- Instructs, motivates and assists patient in the activity:
- 6.9.1. Teaches patient skills and techniques required for participation in their normal daily activities.
- 6.9.2. Evaluates patient progress and attitude and adjusts treatment activities as necessary.
- 6.9.3. Records patient treatment, response, and progress.
- Patient family and caregiver education regarding the use of assistive devices, and adapted equipment, handling techniques, and implementation of home programs prior to discharge.
- Assessment and fabrication of splints primarily for upper limb injuries and for lower limb as necessary and instruct patient in use.
- Devise adaptive equipment necessary for individual patients need and liaise with the departments and agents to have this made.
- Maintains comprehensive written notes on patient progress and provide written and verbal reports for referring doctor.
- Attend case conferences when appropriate, and ward rounds as per consultants’ requirements.
- Provide direct/indirect supervision of Occupational Therapy support staff during the treatment of patients.
- Update and revise appropriate assessment forms, home programs etc.
- Supervision of OT Auxiliary staff, including periodic evaluation and providing assistance with development of skills as necessary.
- Ordering of consumables and necessary equipment/materials to ensure appropriate to ensure an appropriate standard of service is rendered.
- Implementation and management of stock control/inventory system for the OT section.
- Ensure that all equipment/tools are safe and in good working condition.
- Provide relevant input regarding sectional development to line manager.
- Development and revision of general OT treatment protocols/policies and procedure documents.
- Assist lower grade employees/interns with their orientation and training. Provides input for performance evaluations.
- Participate in in-service education activities in the Phyical Therapy Department and other Departments.
- Maintains department statistics as required.
- Maintains professional standards of ethical policies and procedures.
- Assist in all educational programs as requested.
- Performs other duties/tasks assigned within the real m of individuals knowledge, skills, and abilities as required.
Skills
- Post graduate course in NDT (Bobath) techniques.
- Experience in dynamic splinting.
- Experience in sensory processing disorder.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
