LABORATORY SPECIALIST / أخصائي مختبر

Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the Department.

Daily cleans laboratory area and adheres to sanitation guidelines and procedures.

Daily checking and recording of the temperature of refrigerators.

Ensures that laboratory equipment is clean and functional:

Maintenance, Calibration of machines and/or reagents daily or as needed.

Daily control of reagents.

Compiles maintenance forms, calibration and control results.

Bringing samples from the distribution area and check for proper labeling and identification.

Label and organize all tests appropriately to make sure that they are easily retrievable.

Use established lab protocol to perform laboratory tests on respective machine and correctly entering the results in LIS and logbook.

Perform urgent and critical tests of samples received from emergency department or operation room on urgent basis and convey the results to the concerned physician or nurse thru telephone.

Verify all tests results and ensure that they are correctly match with the specimen.

Notification and documentation of rejected/inadequate samples or any other identification/labeling error.

Recording of receiving and releasing time of results and compiling it in Turnaround Time (TAT) file folder.

Inform the section supervisor and section head about critical/ abnormal results and convey the results to the concerned physician or ward nurse thru telephone.

Consultation with the section supervisor or section head in case of any technical issue and with the lab general supervisor in case of administrative issue.

Conducts analysis on various body fluids such as urine, blood, saliva, etc.

Prepares blood and plasma for transfusions by performing compatibility tests.

Ability to prepare monthly inventory and statistics.

Receiving reagents (if needed) and recording it in the receiving form.

Ensuring that near expiry reagents and kits are use earlier than long expiry reagents.

Proper and safe disposal of hazardous and infectious waste and material as per standard protocol and national & international guidelines.

Answers or responds to patient, physician or co-worker questions and concerns.

Respects patient’s confidentiality laws.

Updates and maintains knowledge base by attending workshops, reading, and Participating in professional organizations.

Fulfills and comply with national guidelines and requirements pertaining to lab.

Responsible for own professional development and growth and remains updated in current professional practices.

Participates in CQIPS System Improvement Activities, CQIPS System Control Activities, CQIPS Staff Development Activities.

Monitors the Key Process Indicators (KPI) related to the unit on a regular basis.

Participate in community activities as related to health education and patient education practice.

Knowledgeable of the principles, methods, materials, equipment and techniques of medical laboratory.

Ability to follow detailed procedures precisely.

Ability to maintain focus for long periods.

Ability to deal calmly with patient and staff.

Strong Aptitude in biology, chemistry, and algebra.
