Deputy Director of Nursing

Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with the DoN on all strategic and operational planning and execution; supporting the department’s strategic and annual operational plans.

Provide visible and effective transformational leadership which fosters a positive, safe working environment and supports a Culture of Safety and Culture of Civility.

As delegated by the DoN, actively participate on organization-wide, departmental and/or MODHS Nursing Administration committees; positively representing the organization and the profession of nursing, both internally and externally.

Utilize and embody Magnet principles to transform nursing at all levels, inclusive of excellence in nursing practice (i.e. care delivery models), nursing autonomy, structural empowerment including shared governance, nursing research and innovation.

Support standardization of all initiatives, patient care improvement projects and nursing practice within the facility.

Effectively execute initiatives through robust interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaboration using a systems approach.

Embrace continuing professional development at all levels.

Empower and foster teamwork to achieve nursing practice and operational excellence in the delivery of high quality, safe and efficient patient care, supporting patient centered care, nurse satisfaction and retention.

Support and ensure continuous cost efficiency and value-based use of human, material and financial resources.

Support and coordinate, as delegated, recruitment and onboarding of qualified staff in sufficient numbers within the organization, inclusive of the departmental Annual Staffing Plan.

Support and work collaboratively regionally and with the organization and regional credentialing processes and committees, as delegated, to maintain acceptance of high-quality nursing recruitment to fulfill current and future nursing manpower requirements.

Assist in ensuring nurses are appropriately assigned to job positions and maintain valid qualifications and competencies.

Empower and support the development of staff at all levels to maintain a high-performing workforce and adequate succession planning.

Foster growth and development of a national workforce.

Promote confidence and transparency through effective and professional communication.

Support, develop and ensure compliance of evidence-based policies, procedures and guidelines in fulfillment with regulatory requirements.

Support, coordinate and drive patient experience improvement initiative across the continuum of care while working inter-professionally within the organization.  

Skills

Education/Licensure:

Education:

Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or, for non-Magnet journey hospitals, a Higher Education Diploma in Nursing from the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or Malaysia (minimum 3 years duration).

Essential: Magnet Designated/Journey hospitals - Master’s Degree in Nursing or nursing/health-related field.

Desirable: Non-Magnet Designated/Journey hospitals – Master’s Degree in Nursing or nursing/health-related field.

Essential: Evidence of continuing professional and personal development, including development as a leader.

Professional Licensure:

 Essential: Valid license and registration in home country (non-Saudi nationals).

Essential: Registration with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties as a Specialist or higher.

 Essential:  BLS Certification

Professional Experience

Essential: 8+ years progressive experience in nursing, including 2+ years as a Nurse Leader, exclusive of fulltime study period.

Essential: Executive/senior leadership experience, defined as ‘leader’ with direct reports (i.e. Nurse Managers/Head Nurses) or multi-unit span of control, or equivalent.

Desirable: Participation in accreditations as a leader (e.g. JCI, CBAHI).

Desirable: Magnet Journey accreditation experience.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills (Essential)

Demonstrates knowledge of clinical integration of evidence-based practice and standard of care (Clinical Decision Making).
