Duties and Responsibilities
6.1. Performs his/her duties and tasks as per Hospital Policy and Agreement on Professional Code of Conduct.
6.2. Actively participates in all quality and performance improvement activities within the department/service and within the hospital as per Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Plan.
6.3. Actively participates in all the education requirement and activities as per the Hospital Education Program.
6.4. Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the scope of practice and employment contract.
6.5. Manages all activities in CSSD.
6.6. Develops policies, guidelines and protocols which conform to national and international standards and best practice.
6.7. Ensures provision of departmental equipment to perform the service.
6.8. Sets and monitors standards for the delivery of the agreed service.
6.9. Coordinates training programs for staff, students, interns and others.
6.10. Formulates and evaluates departmental goals and objectives.
6.11. Establishes a good and safe working environment in CSSD for the staff and for the provision of the service.
6.12. Directs activities relating to all technical practices for decontamination and sterilization.
6.13. Assesses supply needs and establishes a standard CSSD supply inventory. Recommends capital equipment for purchase.
6.14. Monitors, documents and reports effectiveness of all CSSD equipment (sterilizers etc). Ensures planned preventive maintenance (PPM) programs are developed and carried out.
6.15. Notifies appropriate departments of malfunction of equipment and resulting effect on patient services.
6.16. Develops, coordinates and directs the orientation of new staff. Reviews curriculum vitae (CVs) and recommends hiring. Makes recommendation for promotion/demotion or disciplinary action, as appropriate.
6.17. Acts as a clinical resource for matters relating to CSSD. Acts as a mentor for other staff members.
6.18. Develops and coordinates routine educational programs and staff meetings to facilitate quality patient care and professional growth.
6.19. Evaluates the performance of CSSD personnel and ensures training and development, as needed.
6.20. Ensures staff compliance with departmental and hospital policies and guidelines. Takes corrective action as necessary.
6.21. Prepares reports, maintains records and compiles statistics as required. Ensures maintenance and compilation of departmental and employee files.
6.22. Chairs departmental meetings. Attends meetings and participates in special projects and committee activities as requested by the Director of Nursing.
6.23. Consults with the Director of Nursing regarding clinical and administrative matters on an ongoing basis. Keeps him/her informed of any circumstances which may affect the service.
6.24. Recognizes emergency situations in CSSD and takes appropriate action providing guidance, direction and coordination of activities for staff.
6.25. Establishes and maintains effective communication with all departments.
6.26. Maintains professional growth and development and keeps abreast of sterile services field. Maintains professional affiliations, attends conferences, seminars, workshops etc.
6.27. Exercises professional behaviour and is accountable for his/her actions.
6.28. Performs other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.
Skills
10.1. Fluency and comprehension in written and spoken English.
10.2. Good organizational, management, delegation and communication skills.
10.3. Arabic language skills.
