Duties and Responsibilities

Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department.

Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible.

Assess, diagnose and manage appropriately patients within the clinical setting in which he/she is working.

To be familiar with the application of all appropriate techniques in neuro-medical and treatment diagnosis.

Participate in relevant multidisciplinary team meetings discussing the care of patients.

Act as team member of internal medicine department.

Participate in the education of the patient and relevant others about his/her illness and treatment.

Cover duties in internal medicine as needed with head of department coordination. 

Adhere to the protocols, guidelines and practice standards pertaining to the area of clinical practice as laid out by the Saudi Government law, MSD's policies and procedure and the Hospital or its affiliates.

Support compliance to national and international standards as required by MSD and support the accreditation process.

Practice in a manner consistent with established ethical standards as provided by the Saudi Council for Health Specialties.

Provide the level of service as specified in the yearly output targets.

Consult and liaise with other professionals involved with the patient.

Participate with other consultants in providing equitable sharing of the clinical service load, both inpatient and outpatient.

Actively contributes to risk minimization activities within the service.

Maintain and participate in a satisfactory on call roster.

Complies with responsibilities under the Health & Safety in Employment Act of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the MSD policies and Procedures.

Participate in educating and training undergraduate and graduate, medical and paramedical staff.

Take responsibility for supervising and training the work of registrars, resident and medical students where required and for other health professionals involved in the management of the patient.

Supervises the Neurology Resident and participates in the formal neurology residency-training program as applicable.

Supervise Neurology Registrars and Residents in Neurology research, investigations, and reporting as applicable.

Assists in the training, teaching, supervision and assessment of trainee technicians, specialists and others as applicable.

Provide classroom lectures to students, trainees or presentations to healthcare providers as required.

Takes part in teaching program lectures, seminars, tutorials etc.

Participates in orientation and in-service education programs.

Supervise and train all resident doctors under Neurology Section.

Participates in CQIPS System Improvement Activities, CQIPS System Control Activities, CQIPS Staff Development Activities.

Participate in Environmental Safety Awareness i.e. Disaster, CPR, Fire, Infection Control.

Monitors the Key Process Indicators (KPI) related to the unit on a regular basis.

EDUCATION AND/OR LICENSE:

Essential:

Higher academic degree (MD, MS) or equivalent recognized by the Saudi Council for Health Specialties (Saudi Board of Neurology).

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree; clinical residency, followed by a fellowship in a specialized area from a medical school.

Successful completion of Medical Licensing Examination from home country.

Appropriate membership in Professional Bodies.

SCFHS Accreditation and Registration.

BCLS and ACLS current certification.

Skills

Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate program and administrative activities of a complex, interrelated, and interdependent nature where unknowns and numerous contingency factors are involved.

Ability to formulate policies and procedures relevant to program areas based on information of a conceptual nature from varied and complex sources.
