Consultant Emergency Medicine

• Performs his/her duties and tasks as per Hospital Policy and Agreement on Professional Code of Conduct.
• Actively participates in all quality and performance improvement activities within the department/service and within the hospital as per Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Plan.
• Actively participates in all the education requirement and activities as per the Hospital Education Program.
• Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the scope of practice and employment contract.
• Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible.
• He will be 1^st in charge for patients in Resuscitation Area, Acute Area and Observation Area. He will supervise and may assist in work in Fast Track.
• Carries out full range clinical duties as assigned by the Consultant in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.
• Clinical assessment of all patients present to him, take all necessary resuscitative measures to stabilize their condition ordering necessary investigation and their discharge or refer patient to necessary services.
• Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department/division.
• Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality Management Program, Quality Assessment Improvement Program ) as applicable.
• Instructs and guides when necessary junior medical staff in the overall care of patients, supervises their performance/work and contributes to the training and teaching activities in the department/division.
• Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties with regard to continuing medical education.
• Attends the Continuing Medical Education Program of the department/division.
• Works towards completing his post graduate training.
• Review and recommends employees for vacant positions in the Accident & Emergency Department to the Chairman of the Credential & Appointment Committee.
• Participates in approved research projects.
• To acquire and maintain a valid certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS, ATLS, & PALS).
• Strives to improve his clinical expertise as well as standard of practice with regard to morbidity and cost effectiveness.
• Participates in the Major Disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated.
• Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical facilities.
• Reviews and recommends employees for vacant positions in the Accident & Emergency Department to the Chairman of the Credential & Appointment Committee.
• Abides by the medical staff bylaws. Code of ethics, rules, and regulations of the medical staff and those specific to the department/division.
• Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible.
• Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the director of department/head of division, and Director of Postgraduate and Academic Affairs in planning a program of career development for trainees.
• Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects.
• Deputies for his superior as required and shares workload in his specialty during the absence of his colleagues.
• Participates in the forward planning, and further development of the department/division.
• Serves on hospital committee as requested.
