ASSISTANT HEAD NURSE

• Provides, supervise and coordinates of all nursing activities related to patient care and ensures quality patient care.
• Assumes a leadership role in providing direction to nursing personnel in accordance with organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
• Ensures the provision of optimal standards of professional nursing care delivery to patients within an assigned hospital unit.
• Functions as Charge Nurse while on duty and may assume the Head Nurse role during his/her absence.
• Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in accordance with established Policies and Procedures, provides guidance, direction and coordination for assigned personnel in activities directed towards standards of patient care, safety and Infection Control.
• Performs a variety of supportive and technical nursing skills and utilizes a range of equipment, supplies, medications, treatments, monitoring techniques and other diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive measures in carrying out medical orders.
• Recognizes emergency situations and takes appropriate action, providing clinical guidance, direction and coordination of activities for auxiliary staff.
• Coordinates patient care amongst multidisciplinary team members and documented in the patient’s medical record.
• Completes all nursing documentation accurately and legibly and understands the importance and relevance of their confidential nature.
• Communicates and provides accurate and complete information through established verbal and written reports.
• Assists with the resolution of problems on a shift-to-shift basis with appropriate documentation and follow up reports to the Head Nurse.
• Acts as a mentor for other staff members and support preceptors and preceptees.
• Participates in CQI & PS activities for improvement of patient care and assists in data collection of the KPI’s for quality improvement and monitoring.
• Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned by the Director of Nursing or designee within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.

• Is a liaison between the patient, the patient’s family and other healthcare professionals and acts as a patient / family advocate and nursing staff.
• Collaborative, able to work with all members of healthcare team in a manner that promotes and encourages each contribution towards achieving optimal patient, family and organizational goals.
• Able to respond, anticipate and integrate cultural differences into patient / family care and foster principles of excellent customer service.
• Able to facilitate learning for patients / families, nursing staff and other members of the healthcare team in both a formal and informal educational setting.
