Duties and Responsibilities
4.0 Duties and Responsibilities: 4.1 Leadership: 4.1.1 Make certain that highest standard of clinical care is maintained utilizing the nursing process.
4.1.2 Efficiently organize and manage the staff efficiently contributing to the new innovation /technology utilizing the available nursing resources within the assigned area. 4.1.3 Provide leadership and act as a role model for the staff at all times .
4,1-l Ensure annual leave, shifts and duties are located to nursing staff and ensure unit is adequately staff throughout the 24 hours.
4.1.2 Coordinate and monitor activities of staff and all services to patients.
4.1.4 Anticipate, identifies potentiality problem and resolution of problems,recommending change to policies as necessary.
4-1.5 Ensure effective communication within the unit / department between nursing staff/ patient / significant others and allied health care personnel.
4-1.6 Report all unusual occurrences / problems / resolutions to the Nursing Shift Supervisor,Deputy Director of Nursing and / or to the Director of Nursing.
4.1.7 Ensure optimal staff safety, welfare and development; participating in on going counseling and in the formal appraisal procedures; promotes good staff relationships.
4.1.8 Ensure the consistent / accurate preparation of nursing records.
4.1.9 Ensure that staffis able to use unit equipment and that appropriate measures are taken to ensure 220.127.116.11 proper maintenance; 18.104.22.168 orders unit supplies, 4.f .9.3 pharmacy, and 22.214.171.124 ensures the most economic use of all rlesources, both material and personnel.
4.f .10 Maintain the control of storage and administration of drugs, including narcotics. 4.1.11 Assists with planning / implementing of change either in the unit or in the whole nursing department as well. 4.1.12 Perform other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of his / her knowledge, skills and abilities as delegated / assigned. 4.f .13 Responsible for maintaining adequate levels of consumables and reporting stock shortage (PAR Level) .
4.1.14 Ensure monthly reports are completed and in timely manner. 4.f .15 Secure patients files, ensures that the files are complete and they are returned to Medical Records on discharge as delegated to the ward clerk or porter. 4.1.16 Conduct on- going in - service lectures. 4:1.17 Develop unit policies and procedures in collaboration with head of the department and other relevant staff.
4.1.18 Promptly reports to Deputy Director of Nursing , Director of Nursing and assists in investigating complaints and incidents in relation to patient care in accordance with Hospital Policy. 4.1.19 Collaborates with medical staff and all other allied health care professionals on matters of patient care and any activity that could affect the delivery of that care. 4.1.20 Takes immediate action on identified hazards or potential hazards and ensures all staff are aware of steps taken. 4.1.21 Checks stocks and recording of Narcotic and Controlled Drugs as laid down in the appropriate procedure. Immediately reports to the Deputy Director of Nursing and Deputy Director of nursing and assists to investigate any incident of drug misuse or discrepancies. 4.1,22 Attends meetings and serves on working groups or committees as appropriate. 4.1.23 Act up as Nurse Supervisor when required to do so and perform such duty if the need arises.
4.1.24 Exercises and demonstrates effective leadership skills for both Nursing and Non Nursing staff. 4.1.25 Establishes and develops effective communication with other members of the health care team, patients and relatives. 4.1.26 Ensures that all staff are oriented into their posts and are fully aware of their range of duties and responsibilities within the scope of practice. 4.1.27 Organizes and undertakes where necessary agreed mentoring/ preceptorship of new staff allocated to their designated area. 4.1.28 Operates appropriately and correctly the agreed Policies and Procedures in relation to the Disciplinary and Grievance Procedure
Professional Experience Required:
6.1.1 Minimum of 10 years' post registration experience inclusive in 4 years in
management in a 100 beds acute care hospital.
7.0 Specialized Knowledge Skills:
7.1.1 Comprehensive knowledge in leadership skills and managerial role in area
7.1.2 With expertise in decision making.
8.0 Personal Oualities/Skills Reouired:
8.1 Good interpersonal communication skills
8.2 Development effective management , facilitating team building and
working to works with Vision , Mission and Goals of Nursing.
