Duties and Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
6.1 Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff, and those specific to the department.
6.2 Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible.
6.3 Carries out full range of clinical activities as assigned by Head of Unit, in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges for Pediatric Intensivist.
6.4 Responsible for managing the assigned clinics as per the approved rota by the Medical Director.
6.5 Admit the patients under his/ her care whenever indicated within the limits of the approved and assigned privileges.
6.6 Responsible for the initial assessment, investigation, analysis & interpretation of the clinical findings and test results, arriving at diagnosis, treatment, and re-assessment and follow- up of the patients.
6.7 Prescribe, administer medication, therapy, and/or other appropriate care to treat or prevent further complication of the disease.
6.8 Responsible for explaining procedures and discussing diagnostic results or prescribed treatments with the patients and/or with the authorized attendants.
6.9 Responsible for monitoring the patient's condition and progress and reevaluate/ reassessment and treat the patient accordingly
6.10 Responsible for referring the patient to other consultants/specialists when necessary, also consult, or provide consulting services to, other physicians whenever requested.
6.11 Responsible for documenting and completing all medical record of the patients and update on the progress of the patient appropriately.
6.12 Responsible for always authenticating the medical records at initial entries and progress notes by placing the signature with date, time, employee ID number and official stamp given.
6.13 Responsible for reviewing and countersigning the entries and notes of all junior medical staff in case of patients under his care.
6.14 Responsible for performing diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures for which the Consultant PICU is privileged for.
6.15 Responsible for approving the discharge summary, follow-up plan, medical report of the patients.
6.16 Responsible for assuming duties as the Coordinator of the PICU as and when required by the management.
6.17 Responsible for ensuring the implementation of all approved policies, procedures, rules, regulations, protocols, guidelines and clinical pathways that guide and support the provision of clinical services.
6.18 Responsible for directing, supervising and coordinating the activities of specialists, residents, nurses, therapists, assistants and other medical staff involved in patient care.
6.19 Advise and contribute to the development of policies and procedures as part of the continuous quality improvement program of the PICU.
6.20 Ensure that Islamic Values and Medical Ethics are respected and strictly observed.
6.21 Required to attend the Code Blue, whenever applicable, and should be involved in all other emergency codes of the hospital.
6.22 Provide the reports and information as and when required by the Coordinator of the PICU or Hospital Administrator/Medical Director of the Hospital.
6.23 Responsible for identifying and bringing all Medico-Legal Cases to the notice of the management on time in accordance with the hospital policy.
6.24 Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department.
6.25 Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the Head of PICU and Director of Postgraduate and Academic Affairs in planning a program of career development for trainees.
6.26 Teach and supervise the training of the Registrars and Residents and participates in the formal residency-training program as required.
6.27 Supervise and train Registrars and Residents in PICU section research, investigations, and reporting as required.
6.28 Assists in the training, teaching, supervision and assessment of trainee technicians, specialists and others as required.

PERSONAL QUALITIES/SKILLS REQUIRED:
10.1 Ability to use scientific techniques to sort through data and conflicting information to reach an accurate medical diagnosis.
10.2 Self-motivated and with awareness of current trends in the fields.
10.3 Ability to use problem solving to evaluate patients’ symptoms and administer the appropriate treatments.
10.4 Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
