          5.0  Duties and Responsibilities

5.1     Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff and those specific to the department/division.

5.2     Provides the highest possible standard of medical care for patients for whom he/she is responsible.

5.3     Provides comprehensive information to the patients regarding their illness and to participate in all related educational activities.

5.4     Carries out full range of inpatient and outpatient clinical duties as assigned by the Director/Head of Cardiac Surgery in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.

5.5     Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department/division.

5.6     Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the Director/Head of Cardiac Surgery and Director of Postgraduate and Academic Affairs in planning a programme of career development for trainees.

5.7     Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Continuous Quality and Patients Safety Programme, Quality Assessment Improvement Programme) as applicable.

5.8     Fulfills the requirements of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties with regard to continuing medical education. 

5.9     Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects.

5.10   Deputizes for his superior as required and shares workload in his specialty during the absence of his colleagues.

5.11   Strives to improve his clinical expertise as well as standard of practice with regard to morbidity and cost effectiveness.

5.12   Serves on hospital committees as requested.

5.13   Participate in the forward planning, and further development of the department/division.

5.14   Participates in the Major Disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated.

5.15   Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical facilities.

• Self-motivated and with awareness of current trends in the field.

• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

• Ability to speak, write and read Arabic and English.

• Must be a publisher of original work, have at least participated and preferably led original research.

• Experience in the organization of teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates and paramedical training
