Duties and Responsibilities
Paramedic Specialist under general supervision, perform tasks such as the following provide timely, professional pre-hospital emergency medical care/Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) to patient who requests/requires it; provide transportation to the appropriate medical facility; operate department vehicles, If necessary receive, prioritize and dispatch calls for emergency medical assistance; assist with on-line medical control; coordinate and direct pre-hospital care resources and operations in the event of a disaster and provide patient care under the authorization of the Ambulance Administrator.
The employee will:
- Provide professional pre-hospital emergency medical care and following established standards of Medical Protocol and Procedures within the scope of practice of the Paramedic Specialist.
- Receive call from dispatcher, responds verbally to emergency calls, reads, maps, may drive ambulance to emergency site, if necessary, uses most expeditious route and observes traffic ordinances and regulations.
- Assist in lifting, carrying and transporting patient to ambulance and to a medical facility.
- Re-assure patients and by-standers, avoids mishandling patient and undue haste, searches for medical identification emblem to aid in care. Extricates patient from entrapment, assess extent of injury, uses prescribed techniques and appliances, radios, dispatcher for additional assistance or services, provides light rescue service if required, provides additional emergency care following established protocols.
- Comply with regulations in handling deceased, notifies authorities, arrange protection of property and evidence at scene. Determines appropriate facility to which patient will be
- transported, reports nature and extent of injuries or illness to that facility, ask for direction from hospital physician or emergency department.
- Observe patient en route and administers care as according to published protocol; identifies diagnostic signs that require communication with facility. Assist in removing patient from ambulance and into emergency facility. Reports verbally and in writing observations about and care of patient at the scene and in route to facility, provides assistance to emergency staff as required.
- Replace supplies, check all equipment for future readiness, maintains ambulance to ensure good operating condition, ensures ambulances cleanliness and orderliness of equipment and supplies, decontaminates vehicle interior, determine vehicle readiness maintains familiarity with all specialized equipment. Accesses protected health information and other patient information only to the extent necessary to complete the duties of this job, sharing information with those who have a need to know complete their job responsibilities relating to treatment, payment and operations.
- Report any concerns regarding the hospital Ambulance policies and procedures in patient privacy as well as any observed practices in violation of the policy to the designated Supervisor on-call.
- Actively participate in the hospital Ambulance training and communicates policy information to co-workers, students, patients and other in accordance with the hospital Ambulance policies. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned by the department.
- Provide the direct fast, efficient Advanced Life Support to the ill and injured utilizing all basic and advanced abilities and techniques, including but not limited to the placement of peripheral, central and intra-osseous lines, esophageal obturator airways, endotracheal intubations, cricothyreotomys, pericardiocentesis, thoracentesis, fluid and drug therapy, cardiac monitoring and EKG interpretations, defibrillation and cardioversion.
- Perform critical physical examination; recognize and understand a medical emergency and will make reasonable and acceptable differential diagnosis.
Skills
- Working knowledge of leadership principles and practices.
- Knowledge of Paramedic protocols, policies and procedures, incident command system and city emergency management plan.
- Ability to determine nature and extent of illness or injury.
- Fluent in English and Arabic, written and speaking.
- Computer skills: Ms Office Application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Physically and mentally fit to work.
- Expertise, achievement drive, professionalism, concern for order and quality, self-confidence, teamwork and service orientation.
- Ability to lead and train personnel, plan, organize and direct their work to maintain effective discipline and morale.
