Adheres to system, hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and objectives; maintains a professional appearance and a clean, safe environment.

Provides primary care and consultative services to patients and health care providers in assigned specialty area.

Reviews medication orders to ensure accurate, rational , and cost-effective drug therapy that includes choice of appropriate drug indication, route, and rate if administration.

Assesses patient’s drug therapy with appropriate adjustments in dosing, and identifies monitoring parameters and therapeutic outcomes in consultations with the patients.

Participates in consultation with health care providers to ensure optimal drug therapy, makes recommendations regarding selection, dosing and administration of medications.

Oversees and coordinates the activities of technical staff/pharmacists/interns assigned to specialty area. Assists in the orientation and training of other departmental personnel.

Participates in inspection of nursing stations and clinics to monitor the proper storage and distribution of patients floor stock, controlled drugs and emergency medications.

Reviews medication histories, maintains and monitors medication profiles, and provides medication consultation for patients in the ambulatory clinics when appropriate.

Plans, provides and evaluates educational activities for patients and/or health care professional, as appropriate.

Participates in the development and production of in-service lectures, clinical case conferences, newsletter articles and other staff development programs for pharmacy or other health care providers.

Participates in the departmental performance improvement as part of the continuous medical educational process (CME) by giving CME lectures to a pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff as necessary.

Familairizes to the extent possible with the laws, rules and regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding procurement, dispensing, administration of and accounting for drugs, especially those wich require special accounting procedures.

Detects, analyses, and report adverse drug reactions.

Documents therapeutic interventions and recommendations in the patient’s medical record when required.

Represents the pharmacy on the hospital committees as necessary.

Participates in CQI&PS system improvement activities, system control activities, and staff development activities.

Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills, and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical facilities.

Excellent understanding of pharmaceutical therapy and direct patient care.

Solid knowledge of drug administration and health & safety guidelines.

Knowledgeable of the following field of studies: Pharmacokinetics, Botany, Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacotherapy, Toxicology, Human Anatomy, Pharmacy Law, Inorganic & Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

Good verbal and written skills on both Arabic and English.
