Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individual patient care.

         Supervises junior and new staff and participates in Orientation and Developmental

Programmes.

       Takes charge of the department in the absence of the person responsible as required

or requested.

       Undertakes the role of the Primary Care Provider specific to a defined patient group.

       Participates  in  the  on-going  training  and  development  programme  of the

department/ward.

        Takes responsibility for his/her own professional conduct and growth.

     Acts  in  accordance  with  all  agreed Hospital and departmental policies and

procedures at all times.

        Behaves in a professional manner at all times.

        Protects patient's confidentiality in accordance with hospital policy.

Establishes a good working environment in which patients receive a high standard of

care.

         Takes responsibility for the direct delivery of professional and competent patient

care by promoting quality care standards.

         Acts on behalf of or at the direction of the Head Nurse/Charge Nurse in setting and

monitoring standards for patient care.

       Participates in the monitoring of the Planning, delivery of care and evaluation of the

individualized Patient Care.

        Informs the Head Nurse/Charge Nurse of any changes in circumstances which affect

the standards of care.

        Establishes  and  develops  effective  communications  with  all  staff of other

disciplines, patients, relatives and all hospital employees.

      Maintains the safety and well-being of patients and staff in accordance with policies

and procedures.

       Uses  equipment and supplies in cost effective and responsible manner and

participates in the procedure for ordering supplies within the agreed budget as delegated.

      Ensures that Infection Control Practices are adhered to in accordance with approved

infection control policies.

      Ensures that students and temporary staff allocated to the ward have appropriate

orientation, teaching and support in accordance with their curricular objectives and reports any matter of concern to the Head Nurse/Charge Nurse.

     Participates in the care, custody and administration of Medicines in accordance with

the PPG.

       Documents and reports all accidents/incidents to Head Nurse/Charge Nurse and Site

Manager.

       Ensures that all nursing documentation is completed accurately and legibly and

understands the importance and relevance of their confidential nature.

       Assists in data collection for monitoring and statistical purposes.

       Participates in staff orientation and on-going developmental programmes.

      Takes responsibility for own professional development and growth and remains

updated in current professional practices.

      Maintains annual updates in Infection Control, Fire and Safety and Major Disaster.
